Jake's Field Trip

I went with Jacob's class on Tuesday to the Museum in Durham. It was pretty cool. We didn't get to see the entire place and I would like to go back some day. The only bad thing is this museum is not free like the ones in Raleigh, and of course the drive.

The End of Football....

Football is now over.....probably until next fall. Josh goes into a new age bracket, and Travis (and coach Cooley) don't make the cutoff. Coach is a personal friend of ours so we would rather let Joshua wait and be on his team than a coach that we do not know. They played a great championship game. Touchdown was scored in the last second to get within 2. They let us go for the 2 pt conversion to tie it up, but we missed. It was still exciting. I got a lot of team photos, plus some of Josh signing the coaches hats, and shirts. We also went out with Coach Cooley (Scott, Travis and Traci) and Coach Pierce (and his son Jack) to Five Guys!!

The First 45 days.......

It's that time.....report cards. I am very proud and excited. Two of my kids made straight A's (Pastor's list) and one got A honor roll. I must admit it was hard to feel good about two of them when Joshua tried so hard and missed it by one grade. How do you congratulate Jake and Jenna when he just missed it? I feel so bad, but A honor roll is quite incredible. Here is the breakdown:

Joshua:
Bible A+
Math A
English B
Reading A
Spelling A+
Spanish A

Jacob:
Bible, Math, English, Phonics, Reading, Spelling and Science A's.

Jenna:
Bible, Math, History A. Phonics and Spelling A+, Reading A-

Field Trip 2

It's been a VERY BUSY week!! I've worked every day but Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday I went with Joshua and his class to the museum of natural science and the museum of history. I've never been to the history museum. It was pretty cool. I'm looking forward to the spring field trip. Fourth grade has a HUGE NC state project due (which I heard most 4th grades do) so they are visiting the legislative building, the governor's mansion and the state capital. I really enjoy watching the kids interact with their friends. One more field trip next week with Jacob!!

Beauty Day

Jenna got to go to a party at All About Me on Saturday. She didn't get her nails done, but they did hair and makeup. I guess they painted her face a little. Her hair looked cute and the makeup was just perfect for a little girl.

Weekly Deals

These are my free items for the week: one candy bar, two bags of candy corn, toothpaste, and a sobe water. The great thing is that I didn't pay anything for them!! I'm actually getting another toothpaste today since it's free, but I wanted to go ahead and get the post listed.

Science Project

I thought I better take a picture of Josh's project since he turned it in Tuesday. I didn't take a picture of his journal, but this is what the bug collection turned out like. I'm pleased. Not sure if we did EXACTLY what we should, and I did stress about the last bug, but it all came together. Thanks to Monica for all her help and for getting us a few critters. Also, thank you to Traci for the roach, and for Lydia for the magnifying glass and the bug books so that we could try to figure out what we actually caught.

The Big Presentation

Jacob had his presentation last night. He did really good. I was proud of him and all his work. His was one of the best, but Joshua said I have to say that, but it really is true!! I love Mrs. Harris. She really goes all out when the class has something like this. The entire room was decorated in zoo animals. The kids projects were all neatly displayed, and then she had food to go with the theme......zebra cakes, monkey munch, snake eggs (grapes), lion food (snack mix) etc. She really puts a lot of thought into it. She even started the presentation by saying "welcome to the zoo.....I hope you enjoy your tour, please keep hands and feet in at all times. You're tour guides are excited to tell you all about the exhibits".

Field Trip

I was able to go on a field trip with Jenna last Thursday. We went to the Gov. Aycock birthplace. I've been there before. Although it isn't my favorite place, it was fun to be with her and watch her with her friends. They got to see a one room school house, some farm animals and living conditions back then. They got to see how they used to cook, sew, and do other things. I have two more field trips coming in the next two weeks.

football

I know, another post about football, but I have to brag. Joshua had a great game yesterday....the best he has had all season. He had at least 5 flag pulls, broke up at least 3 key plays and almost had an interception. The other player and him both came down with the ball and neither would give it up, so they gave the call to the offense. At the end of every game, the coach gives a medal to a player that really did an outstanding job. Usually the coaches get in a huddle and talk for a few minutes, but they didn't even need to this game. Josh really did a great job. The game ended in a tie, but the defense did great. I'm surprised Josh wasn't embarrassed by the way I cheered for him on the side lines!!

Project finished 4 days ahead of schedule........

Jacob finished ALL of the project on Monday! We can relax the rest of the week!! He finished the hard part first....the written report. All that is left is his oral presentation on Tuesday night. I think it turned out great. Thanks, Sara, for the help with the bamboo.

Projects, Projects, Projects

I have so many projects I still need to finish. I have a couple of touch up spots I'm waiting to finish painting, I'm trying to get fall clothes out, cleaning closets etc. On top of that, I have two science projects coming due. One is due Thursday, the other the following Tuesday. I really like them having projects because I think it teaches them how to follow directions, time management, responsibility, etc. Last week Jacob had a book report due and he finished it 4 days ahead of schedule. I'm trying to teach them how good it feels to get to it and get it done instead of having it over your shoulder.
Jacob has to choose a zoo animal and do a report. At least one page long. He also has to do either a poster board, shadow box, or other display of the animal he chose. He chose the panda bear because he thinks it is the cutest!! I found some panda bears so since we ALWAYS do a poster board, I thought we would make some type of shadow box. I can put some bamboo in there, some rocks, maybe something that looks like a tree, etc. Can't wait to show you the pictures.
Joshua has a bug project. He has a science test Monday so I doubt we will finish everything, but if we can get a great start this weekend I will be happy. He needs to find 10 insects, catch them, freeze them, thaw them and then observe and write a log book about each one. We found a little craft/display box to put them in and label them. I hope to finish this one next Saturday, giving him 2 1/2 days of rest. It just depends on how soon we can finish collecting 10 bugs, which is not easy. I can't wait to see this one all put together. They both seem very excited about doing these projects. Jacob also has to do a verbal report at night in front of all the parents. I'm sure he will do fine, but I'm also very nervous for him!!
