Cute Ideas

Melody(the lady I work with) made this Christmas tree with the kid's hands. I thought that was a cute idea. Another teacher did the same thing only traced their hands on construction paper and that looked cute. Here is the bulletin board from Jenna' teacher. She is very creative, but she did teach kindergarten for 5 years!

Girls Night

I had so much fun last night. I went out with Kim and Heather from BHBC. We are starting to make this a tradition. The week after Thanksgiving we get together and go shopping. I got to go to Old Navy, Bath and Body Shop, Michaels, Lifeway, ToysRUs and Target. I got a lot accomplished. We also had a great dinner at a great restaurant. I had so much fun! I am thankful for my new church and the new friends that God has blessed me with, but I also miss my friends at BHBC too! Thanks Heather and Kim....I miss you guys!!! Thanks for a much needed night out of the house!

We have a VERY SPECIAL Family night planned tonight. Tune in tomorrow for pictures!!!! Also, please tune in on Monday, December 3rd!

Cold Hands, Warm Hearts

Here is another cute idea I got from the another blogger (thanks for the ideas!) I thought they turned out pretty good. While I had their hands panted, I started the santa claus handprints, but I need wiggly eyes, so I'll have to get some of those before I can finish. I got that idea from the Family Fun website. I'll have to put everything aside in another week and start Christmas baking with the kids.

And I Want to Home School?.......

I guess I am having a blonde moment. Joshua brought his homework for the week home. On his math he had a lot of clock and calendar work, which I can handle. He has one problem though that says" draw a cylinder, draw a cone, draw a rectangular prism". Are you serious? Are they doing this in first grade? I think I know what these look like (especially the cone!!!) but I can't draw a stick person and I have to instruct Joshua on this?? The other problem has three different columns of shapes. It says "circle the pattern UNIT" Joshua has no idea what the unit is, and neither do I. Now, we know all about patterns and how to make one etc, but this is new to me. The second part of this problem says"translate each pattern to letters, numbers or words and show your work on the back of this sheet". Well, to me, they would all look like ABABABAB etc. And I think I could home school???????????

Fun With Family

What a wonderful weekend we had. My brother came down from Ohio. We pigged out Thursday at my sister's house, Friday, I went shopping, Saturday we took my mom and dad out to Logan's for their birthdays, (that was really good after 5 meals of turkey and ham!) so it was an action packed weekend. I also started Christmas crafts with the kids. I started with something easy...these cute Christmas trees. The kids love making them and giving them away. I got the idea from another blogger off of Pam's blog. She has so many creative ideas. I don't know how she can get so man crafts done! I also discovered The Family Fun website which is filled with crafts and recipes that we can do together. Remember, I am not the craftiest person in the world, but I do enjoy doing them with the kids. I enjoyed the time off and I don't think I am ready to go back to work!!!

Call Me Crazy......

And, I am! I got up early this morning to try to get something for Christmas. I am definitely too old for this, and now I see why I haven't done this in years!!! (I used to do it all the time before I was married, and Jack and I did it a couple of times when we were first married). I spent time Thursday going through the ads and only found one store worth getting up for. It takes A LOT for me to want to get out there and put on my boxing gloves. Walmart had some things that I thought were a REALLY good buy! I checked all over Thursday night to compare the regular price and also checked all other stores and couldn't find anything that came close. So, like I nut, I am up at 4 am, dressed, and the door at 4:30. I get there and it is a mob scene. I look all item for the item I want, and suddenly it's 5 am and everyone is throwing things in their carts! I was lucky and found the item I wanted, and a few extra, waited patiently in line for 15 minutes, and got home at 6 (after a Bojangles run for the family) and went back to bed. I am too old to fight the crowds. I enjoy my shopping from my home computer, and week nights when everyone is home!!!

More Thanksgiving Events

Yesterday was a warm up to Thanksgiving Day. I had the feast at Jenna's preschool, a dessert feast at Joshua's school, and then desserts at church. It was a busy day, but I can make up for it with 3 days off this week!! The service was very nice last night. We have a great church family. Here are some pictures of all the events: Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Thanksgiving Time At Preschool

We've been so busy at preschool. Here are the crafts that we made, and the good thing is that they are so easy....I even supervised them! The beans are a candle and so are these baby food jars with tissue paper!

Here are my 4 year olds getting ready to sing their songs for their parents. Jeremy did not want to do it. He had a fit at me all day. I tried to get him to get in line but he started kicking me and crying, and I don't play that game. Our new boy, Julian, was also gone, but this is the rest of the bunch! We have a great bunch of kids!!!

Next, here is my little Indian. Isn't he cute? Today, Jenna has her "feast" and then we are off to Joshua's school for yet another "dessert feast" Can you count how many pounds are coming on?

Just To Set The Record Straight

First I wanted to post pictures of the kids dressed up for church. Aren't they cute? I really wanted to write to clear up any confusion my family may have. I have been slowly coming back on our football challenge. Yesterday, I gained 4 spots on my brother. I am still 2 down, but I am in the contest now!! There have been rumors that Jack and I share answers. This is not true. I have on occasion ask him his opinion on a game, or help on the "sure win" (and you see where that got me) but we don't compare answers. I am one or two ahead of him right now too! I just use some good guesses and then my guesses end up in bad weeks. I also use some "girl" power too. Sometimes I think "who has the better shopping". I mean, everyone went with Detroit yesterday except me. Everyone knows New York has better shopping than Detroit. How can I not go with them!!!!!! The game still has several weeks, plus playoffs are 4 points each, so truly, it is anyones game! I am just proud that a girl can hang with all the men!!!!

A Little Late

Ok, so I am really late. I bought this from Sara how long ago???? I am just now getting it hung up in my kitchen. I need reminding of this. Thursday I went into Joshua's classroom to help, and the teacher never said thank you. I asked her some questions and she was very short with me, but not in a mean way (if that makes sense). I left very upset because I felt like I wasted my time and was once again doing her work. Then, I get mixed signals. Yesterday about 9 am, I get a phone call and it was Mrs. Johnson calling to check on Joshua. She said she knew he must really be sick for him to miss school. I can't figure the woman out! Oh, and thankfully, Joshua is much better today....right back to his normal self.

The Long Lost Brownies

Ok Jack, I won't let you forget this for awhile......You know that commercial on TV where the mom says "you need how many cupcakes for tomorrow" I kinda felt that way last night. Jack's company is having a feast and asks me "what can I bring". I remembered I had brownies in the cupboard, so I "slaved" all night (ok so I am milking this a little bit) while putting away laundry, giving Jacob a bath and Joshua a shower. I packaged them up and left them on the kitchen table. Guess what.....he forgot them! They are still on the table!!!

Joshua is home sick today. I'll run Jacob over to preschool and stay with him. He started crying and said "mommy, you gave me a shot and I still got sick"! I wish Joshua that there were a shot out there that would keep us from getting sick!

My Family

We had these pictures taken Sunday for the church directory. I love "toothless" I have a great looking bunch! I am very blessed!

This week has been very long, even with a day off. I woke up today thinking it was Friday. I think it's been long because we have been extremely busy at preschool trying to get Thanksgiving Feast crafts and table decorations done. I also have to go to Joshua's school right after preschool, so no rest today. Also, yesterday, I was just shocked at some of our parents. One mom came in and started complaining because we don't have snack until 10:30-10:45 because her son didn't eat breakfast and was hungry. We have a new little boy Julian. He is really sweet. We asked his mom yesterday how many people would come to the feast, and she said none. None! Can you believe that? This poor little boy will be the only one with no one there with him. She said she will be packing at home and can't make it. How can you not make your child's feast? How can you not come have lunch with your son? Then we had problems with Kayla yesterday. Kayla is not going to kindergarten next year. Her mom is holding her back. We asked her simple yes/no questions all morning and she just stared at us like it was funny that she was doing it. Melody wanted me to talk to the mom when she came. Luckily, she is an extremely nice mom, but she just made excuses like "she does that to me at home....it's just her"! Between all of this, no wonder I am tired, and waiting for Friday to come!!! Like I said earlier, I am going to Joshua's school today to give the children their reading tests. Mrs. Johnson came running up to me last week in a panic because her assistant would be out all week. I guess I am just too nice, but it does give me an excuse to keep an eye on Joshua's class!

The School Dilemma

I've been wanting to post about this for some time and decided now was a great time to write about things. I've been really debating about what to do next year with school for the kids. Joshua will be in second grade (oh my) and Jacob will be starting kindergarten (wow). I've been really bothered by things the last few weeks. It all boils down to Joshua's teacher, Mrs. Johnson. Now Mrs. Johnson is nice and she is definitely experienced, however, she does not want to be there. Joshua told me one day "Mrs. Johnson doesn't ever smile, mommy. She just isn't happy". "She only smiles when the mommies come in". That's pretty observant for a 1st grader. He has told me several times that "she doesn't know Jesus". There are several reasons why I am not fond of this year and have struggled with things. First is the reason I just listed. Secondly, she doesn't want to do anything extra. She doesn't want to do class parties. Why should my child be punished because he is in the wrong class? She puts me as room mom in positions that I don't feel comfortable with, things that I think should come from a teacher and not me. She also relies on the computer a lot (don't we all) but she isn't staying on top of Joshua's reading like I would and that bothers me. When you go into the classroom, you can tell that she is very stressed and overwhelmed. I've been tempted many times this year just to pull Joshua and teach him myself, but Jack and I both feel that I made a commitment to preschool and it wouldn't be right in the middle of the year to quit.
So, we are thinking about next year. I am ready to home school Joshua. I think I could do a great job. I am worried about Jacob though. Kindergarten is a year that he gets a lot of basics and structure. I think Jacob needs a year of that. We look into the Christian School for next year. We found one that was affordable for the two of them and I drove by it yesterday. The problem is that it is 17 miles one way. That would be about 350 miles of driving....wear and tear on the van, not to mention gas prices. You could tack on about $65 a week in gas with prices going up. There is a school closer, however it is $150 more a month and still 14 miles away. I have to take the boys, come home, pick them up, come home, and of course, that is how the mileage gets tacked on.
Then we thought about home schooling Joshua and then taking Jacob to school, but how would Jacob think (in the mind of a 5 year old)...I have to go to school and Josh stays home with mommy.? I think he would have a hard time with that.
I ask Joshua what he wants and he says he wants to go back to his school next year. Maybe it's just that we have a really bad teacher. Maybe next year would be better??? Oh, this is so hard. I know you think "this is next year, why is she even so concerned?" Well, if you want in the Christian school, you have t be ahead and start the process in February or you won't get in.

Trying To Be Crafty

I am trying (trying is the key word here) to get crafty with my kids. As you all know, I have NOT ONE CRAFTY BONE IN MY ENTIRE BODY! I really feel sorry for my kids if I ever do home school, because I can't make anything (and that includes cooking). Anyway, yesterday we made our "Indians". They really enjoyed it. We enjoyed having the day off today and I wanted to do something with them, so I made a handprint turkey. I also made some feathers and asked them what they were thankful for. I know Jacob and Jenna do a lot of cute crafts at school, but I wanted to attempt something here, and I wanted it to be "their work" (which actually is better than mine anyway!!!)

All I Want For Christmas Is...My 1 Front Tooth

He hasn't lost both front teeth yet, so I can't sing the original song. Josh finally managed to get his front tooth out. He has had his fingers in his mouth forever! I can't believe how calm he gets when he looses a tooth! The tooth fairy had to hurry and try to to put some money together.

Friday Bear

The four year old classes have "Friday Bear". It's a little bear that every child gets to take home on Friday's and take care of for the weekend. It's FINALLY Jacob's turn and he was so excited. In fact, he got Friday Bear Wednesday (since Friday was a field trip) and he gets to keep him until next Wednesday (since there is no school Monday). I write a little journal entry of all the things we did with Friday Bear and it gets read to the class. Here are pictures of Jacob and his class and a couple of Jenna at the Forest.
Today we got some much needed time alone. Jack and I got to go to Target and get some Christmas shopping done, over to BJ's and then to Chili's for lunch. We really need this time together, and I am grateful for it. We went to Crabtree just for a few minutes. I got a really nice treat today.....this year was our 10 year anniversary. With the trip to Memphis and to the beach and buying the van, our budget was tight around our anniversary. I found this ring/band that I wanted for our 10 year event. Jack bought it for me today because he was afraid it wouldn't be there later. I have to save it for Christmas, so I can't wait to show you. It's white gold with diamonds and sapphires. I think we both got scared because the BJ's by our house didn't have it any more, so when we found it in Raleigh, he got it and put it aside. It will be hard to wait until Christmas!!!

Friday

I am so happy it's Friday! Yesterday completely wore me out! I was just running crazy. I am hoping to at least get a few things done today. Yesterday, I was able t leave the forest at 10:45, so I am hoping to be home from preschool around 11:30 today. It is so boring out there in the forest, but like I said, it is an easy day. I took a couple of pictures out there, and I also took one of the invitations the kids made to their "Thanksgiving Feast".

Another Busy Day

Today is one of those days where I will be running around like a mad man. We have a field trip at Clemmons Forest here in Clayton for the three year olds. We will be freezing our tails off. Maybe parents will leave early!! We have to go again tomorrow too. It gets pretty boring walking around the forest, but I guess it's easy money as the parents will be there. Anyway, after that, I have to run to Raleigh for something that came up. Then, it's back to get in carpool line to get Joshua, and then over to Garner to get them their flu shots (I haven't told them yet), back home, prepare dinner, and then Joshua and I are going to his school to hear about how to improve his reading (a presentation just for first grade parents and their kids). Maybe after that I can breathe again!

We've been busy making Thanksgiving day crafts in preschool. I have a little boy in my four year old class, Jeremy, who has a lot of problems. The sad thing is, I think mom is in denial. She acts like nothing is wrong with him. I am not sure if he is autistic or what. I know that he had a hearing problem when he was born, but is fine now. This child will not be ready for kindergarten, and I don't know if mom realizes that or not. He won't talk, only to tell me "no", and you know that doesn't go well with me. He can't cut, doesn't know his letters or anything. You ask him simple questions and he stares into space. The sweet thing is that Jenna has taken to him, and Jeremy to her. The mom came in yesterday and said "he probably won't talk much today and will be very quiet". I wanted so badly to tell her that he never talks in preschool. We had a new little boy start last week and he walked up to Jeremy and said "what's your name" and Jeremy would not answer. I just feel bad because I think the mom expects us to work miracles with him, when she is totally in la la land about her son. He needs a place that can give him the help he needs and can give him the help he needs for kindergarten.

My Family Is Growing!

This was taken at Bethany Hills Baptist Church for their directory. If you look closely, you can see Jacob had some beautiful curls at the end of his hair. We didn't cut it right away as the little guy was bald for a year. Jenna was probably a year old. Our family is getting bigger. Last night we got one of those XL pizza's at Papa Johns, and it was not enought to feed us! The kids wanted more!

I Want To Be Like You Mommy

These are the scary words I keep hearing from Jenna. I have little eyes that are watching me. I desire so much more from my little girl. I hate it at times that she wants to be like me. Yesterday when I was getting ready for church, I crimped my hair....something I do when I don't have a lot of time. Jenna was standing right there and said."I want my hair to look like yours". Thankfully, hers looked really cute!

I'm Back!

Sorry....I don't think anyone missed me, but I haven't had a chance to blog in a couple of days. I don't have any photos to post at this time. I have been very busy. I left preschool early yesterday to go get Mikayla. She sat with Jacob and Jenna while I went to Joshua's school to help. I had a great time in his class. Last night for family night Jack and the kids went to Wendy's with their free coupons and I ran to Target. We went to Kohl's and found some great clearance items. Today we went to about 3 yard sales (we woke up late) and then ran some things over to mom's. Jack and I got an unplanned couple of hours to do some Christmas shopping. I got a good start on Jenna. I am still trying to figure out what everyone wants etc. After that we went and got our free hot dog at the meat sale and then I have been cleaning and catching up. I've had about 3-4 loads of laundry, I went through Joshua's drawers to get out all the summer items (I think fall is here to stay now), cleaned the kitchen etc. It's been a good, busy weekend. Hopefully something exciting will happen next week and I can have more pictures up.

Fun on Halloween

Traci on too much sugar (ha ha...just kidding)
Traci, the snow princess

We had a great time last night. We went out to eat to Chili's with scott, Traci, and Travis. Joshua was so excited to see Travis again! The kids went trick or treating. Josh was Captain Jack, Travis was a Jedi, Jake a blue Power Ranger and Jenna a princess. They went out with Scott and Jack while Traci and I passed out candy, and then we switched for a little while. The kids and I enjoyed the day off yesterday, and now it's back to the rushed routine!
