Week 4 Summer Vacation...craft week etc

Wow...week 4???  This week we spent time at the pool in between thunderstorms.  Other things we did this week were: we finally made a tough decision, I got to go out and have dinner with a friend, and Jenna went to VBS at Mt. Moriah Baptist with a friend.  Jenna and I also got to go to the church last night for craft night.  Jenna had some help, but did great:).  She did a lot of it by herself and we are looking forward to making this again!!  She isn't sure if she will give it to her teacher or her aunt for a Christmas present.

Week 3 Summer Vacation

Week three of summer vacation is quickly coming to an end.  We spent the majority of this week at swim lessons.  I've enjoyed watching the kids dive/slide into the deep end and not have to wear life jackets any more.  I haven't gotten much done at the house this week, but hopefully since they only have one more lesson, we can get more into a routine.  I also took them grocery shopping with me this week.  They all helped me find items and write down prices.  They liked seeing how I saved $50 this week in coupons alone (not counting the store discounts).  We also went to the $1 movies with some friends that we have not seen in a long time, so it was good to go see them and laugh at the 3 stooges1

Forest Gump

So our favorite thing by far in Savannah was the walking food tour.  We were so hot and tired from all our walking/activities that day that we went back to the hotel and used the pool. The other thing I liked was finding out that one of the scenes from Forest Gump was taped at a park in Savannah. The feather that fell at the beginning of the movie came from the top of this church and the scene where he eats his chocolate on the bench was the park.  One of the trolley tours (not ours) had a look alike Forest Gump running and getting on the bus.  I couldn't believe how close he looked to him.

Savannah

Jack and I were able to get away for a two days.  We left Wednesday and came back Friday afternoon. I loved being away with him. Wednesday we looked around the city.Thursday we took a trolley around town and later in the afternoon we took a riverboat cruise.  The highlight of our tour was a food walking tour.  Jack and I were the only ones on the trip.  It started with some local BBQ (and I was able to get it down).  We then walked to another place that give us a slider.  It was the best burger I have ever eaten.  The meat was seasoned perfectly and the bun was baked fresh.  We liked it so much that we went back for dinner!!  Next was Lady and Sons owned by Paula Deen and her sons.  I'm so happy we could do this.  We each could pick one thing off the buffet.  Jack got this steak meat in white gravy (yum) and I got the mac and cheese (again yum).  Next stop was Leopolds Ice Cream....one of the oldest ice cream parlors.  Jack and I had actually tasted this Wednesday, so this was our second time.  The butter pecan was out of this world!  Next we went to vinegar place.  Sounds funny, but we got to taste these oils on ice cream.  I'm glad I went because I would have never would have stopped otherwise.  The next stop was a tea/spice company.  Again I would not have stopped otherwise.  Finally the last stop was the chocolate shop.  They gave us three chocolates, one of which was a key lime chocolate!!  Wow!!  Although this was not our favorite spot and we will probably never go back, I enjoyed the time alone with him and the tour made things a little better.

Week 2- The Wilds

Week two of our summer vacation includes the kids going off to camp.  This is the first year that all three of them could go.  I have mixed emotions.  I'm sad to see them all growing up and reaching different stages of their lives, but I'm also happy for some down time.  I've enjoyed the quiet so far.  Today I ran 2.5 miles, ran home, took a boot camp, met a possibility for a job next year, did my dad's laundry and cleaned the kids room.  Whew....was that a job.  All the drawers were cleaned out and organized, old clothes going to goodwill, some getting sold......cleaned behind their beds, changed sheets etc.  Tomorrow I will tackle the kitchen, living room and bedroom.  I'm also a little worried.  I'm thankful for Olivia who said she would room with Jenna and take her under her wing.  I'm worried about who Jacob and Joshua will room with.  I'm hoping that they won't be together.  I think they need to be separated.  There really isn't anyone for Jacob and I'm not sure if they will put the three 6th grade boys together or not.  Hopefully it will all work out and hopefully I will find out soon how it all played out.

Summer Vacation

Since we went to Disney,we went to Myrtle Beach for the weekend.(and not an extended stay like usual) We also cut a lot of corners.....no eating out, no hot Krispy Kreme donuts, etc.  We still had a good, relaxing time.  It was a good start of our summer vacation.  We've spent the rest of our week at swim lessons, a friends house, a dentist and orthodontist appointment.  We could get used to time off!!
